Wake Forest's Sean Okoli Named Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week

Oct. 24, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest sophomore forward Sean Okoli was selected as this week’s Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week.

Okoli scored all three goals in Wake Forest’s 3-1 win over NC State on Oct. 19. It was his first career hat trick, and pushed his goal total to a team-high eight for the season. Okoli opened scoring in the 33rd minute, and after NC State tied the game in the 50th minute, the Federal Way, Wash., native scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 59th minute. Okoli completed the hat trick on an unassisted strike at the 69:42 mark.

The hat trick is the sixth by an ACC player this season, second in conference play, and second by a Demon Deacon. Luca Gimenez scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Virginia Tech on Sept. 28.

His efforts last week also earned him ACC Co-Player of the Week honors.

Okoli is the second student-athlete from the ACC to be awarded NSCAA National Player of the Week honors as Duke’s James Belshaw was honored on Sept. 19.

The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Players of the Week are announced every Wednesday. One male and one female player are selected by a committee from nominations submitted by NCAA Division I conferences.

Winners will also be recognized during Friday's NSCAA College Game of the Week broadcasts on FOX Soccer.
