GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore forward Sean Okoli and Maryland junior forward Patrick Mullins have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week, announced by conference officials on Tuesday.
Okoli scored all three goals in Wake Forest’s 3-1 win over NC State on Oct. 19. It was his first career hat trick, and pushed his goal total to a team-high eight for the season. Okoli opened scoring in the 33rd minute, and after NC State tied the game in the 50th minute, the Federal Way, Wash., native scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 59th minute. Okoli completed the hat trick on an unassisted strike at the 69:42 mark.
The hat trick is the sixth by an ACC player this season, second in conference play, and second by a Demon Deacon. Luca Gimenez scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Virginia Tech on Sept. 28.
Mullins led top-ranked Maryland to a 2-0-0 week including a 1-0 win over No. 2/3 North Carolina in overtime. Mullins started the week with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Colgate, before delivering the game-winning assist in the victory over the Tar Heels.
The New Orleans native leads the Terps, and the ACC, with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. Mullins was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week for his efforts last week.
Six teams will face non-conference foes tonight, including North Carolina hosting Campbell at 7 p.m., on ESPN3. ACC action will continue on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27.
