Noting Men's Soccer

Oct. 20, 2011

• Maryland holds a No. 2 ranking in the first RPI released by the NCAA, while North Carolina checks in at No. 7. Virginia is ranked 15th, Boston College 21st and Duke 26th to give the ACC five teams among the top 30.

• North Carolina is ranked No. 2 and Maryland No. 3 by both College Soccer News and the NSCAA this week. Boston College is ranked 17th by CSN and 18th by the NSCAA. Duke holds the No. 27 spot in the CSN poll.

• ACC Player of the Week Nazmi Albadawi has scored NC State’s last four goals.

• Two oddities occurred in Clemson’s 2-0 upset of Boston College on Oct. 14 … With only one second left in regulation, Iain Smith scored his first goal of the year (89:59). That tied the Clemson record for the latest goal scored in regulation in school history. Jimmy Glenn scored with one second remaining in the Tigers’ 2-1 upset-win at number-one ranked Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. on October 10, 1993 … The other strange oddity on Smith’s recent goal is that Tigers goalkeeper Cody Mizell had an assist on the play.
