Five From the ACC Land on Soccer America's Preseason All-America List

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes are among the 25 named to the Soccer America Preseason All-America Team announced on Friday.

The contingent includes the ACC’s 2011 Freshman of the Year Mikey Lopez of North Carolina, as well as three All-ACC First Team selections from a season ago in Duke goalkeeper James Belshaw, North Carolina keeper Scott Goodwin and Maryland midfielder John Stertzer. Midfielder Sebastien Ibeagha of Duke, an All-ACC Second Team honoree in 2011, was also named to the list.

Goodwin led the ACC with 11 shutouts and a 0.67 goals against average, while Stertzer, who was recently named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, returns as the league’s co-leading scorer.

The ACC men’s soccer season gets under way this weekend (Aug. 24-26) with all nine teams seeing action. Conference play opens on Sept. 7.
