Six ACC Men's Teams Ranked Among Soccer America Preseason Top 25

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference leads all conferences with six of its nine men’s teams ranked among the Top 25 of the 2011 Soccer America Preseason Poll released by the publication on Monday.

2010 NCAA Men’s College Cup semifinalist North Carolina received a No. 3 preseason ranking. Maryland, which reached the quarterfinals of last season’s NCAA Tournament, is ranked No. 8.

Virginia garnered a No. 11 ranking, followed by Duke at No. 12 and Wake Forest at No. 13. Boston College checked in at No. 23.

Louisville, last season’s NCAA runner-up, is ranked No. 1, followed by UCLA, UNC, defending NCAA champion Akron, and Connecticut in the top five.

The ACC has placed at least one team in the NCAA College Cup Final Four each of the last 10 years. The ACC owns 14 NCAA Men’s Soccer national titles, including four of the last six, and has appeared in the championship game on 21 occasions.

The ACC men’s soccer season gets under way this weekend (Aug. 26-28) with all nine teams seeing action.
