Jan. 14, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three ACC student-athletes were selected in the first round of the 2011 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Thursday, January 13 in Baltimore, Md. The Baltimore Convention Center, which also served as host for this year’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention, saw nine ACC standouts drafted overall.

The 2011 SuperDraft consisted of three rounds with 18 selections each. Of the ACC’s nine chosen amongst the total 54 draftees, four different league institutions were represented.

With four 2011 picks taken from North Carolina, the Tar Heels have now tied for the fourth-most draft selections in MLS league history with Indiana. The two selections in each of the first two rounds bumps Carolina's total to nine in each of the opening rounds, and now has 33 players selected in the MLS SuperDraft overall.
