ACC Players of the Week Presented by Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke junior midfielder Robert Rotanz and sophomore goalkeeper Dan Wigrizer have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending on Monday, April 18.

The pair of Rotanz and Wigrizer helped Duke clinch the ACC regular season title outright, marking the ninth overall crown for Duke and fifth since 2005 for the program.

Rotanz led the Blue Devils to a pair of wins last week, including a 13-11 win over seventh-ranked Virginia, en route to capturing the top seed in the upcoming two-day ACC Championship. Against league foe Virginia on Saturday, Rotanz registered a career-high five points, tying his previous career-high of four goals and adding an assist. The native of Westport, Conn., led Duke’s second-half charge with four goals in the final two quarters, including what proved to be the game-winner. He scored on four of the six shots he took in the game overall. Rotanz also had one goal and a ground ball in Duke’s win over Presbyterian on Monday. Rotanz has 12 points in his last five games after having just 10 points in the previous nine games.

Wigrizer turned in an outstanding effort against Virginia as well, finishing with 11 saves against the Cavaliers, who came into the game averaging nearly 14 goals per game. The Villanova, Pa., native made eight second-half saves, including one in the final 1:15 to keep Duke in front by two, 13-11. Wigrizer has now registered at least 10 saves in seven of his 12 games this season. In addition, he picked up four ground balls against the Cavaliers to earn his eighth win of the season.

ACC Men’s Lacrosse action continues on Friday as part of the 2011 ACC Championship, which will be held April 22 and 24 at Duke’s Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
