GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced on May 7 the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regionals.
Eight of the eleven ACC teams were selected to advance to regional play and extend their seasons: Wake Forest will be the ACC representative at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. Duke will play at the Grandover Resort East Course in Greensboro, N.C. Two ACC teams - Virginia and NC State will be the ACC representatives at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. Clemson and Virginia Tech will play at the The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky. And Georgia Tech and Florida State will represent the ACC at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
2012 marks the second consecutive year the ACC has sent eight teams to the NCAAs and the fourth time since 2006. Nine teams were selected in the 2007, 2008 and 2010 seasons.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be held May 17-19 to determine the championship field. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of the three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
The NCAA Men's Golf Championship finals will be held May 29-June 3 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
