GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State’s Matt Hill, Wake Forest’s Lee Bedford and Virginia’s Ben Kohles have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Co-Golfers of the Month for March.
Hill, a junior from Brights Grove, Ontario, won his first tournament of the season by capturing medalist honors at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C. Hill tied his career-best 54-hole score with a 9-under-par 204. He held the lead after each round and all three rounds were under par as well. Hill now extends his school record to 10 career tournament wins. In three other tournaments played during the month of March, Hill placed in the Top 20 of two tournaments (John Hayt Collegiate and Schenkel E-Z-GO) and tied for 27th at the General Hackler.
Bedford, a sophomore from Cary, N.C. had a very consistent month of March, posting a pair of top-5s and finishing no worse than tied for 16th in any of the three events. His month culminated with a career-best 8-under 63 in the final round of the Hootie @ Bulls Bay on March 30. The 63 is tied for the second-lowest round in school history. Bedford finished second individually at the Hootie. Bedford opened the month by finishing tied for 16th at the Seahawk Invitational with rounds of 73-75. He then carded rounds of 71-74-72 at the General Hackler Intercollegiate to finish fifth in the 72-player field. For the year, Bedford has recorded seven top-20s in nine events.
Kohles, a sophomore from Cary, N.C. opened the spring by winning his second event of the season, taking medalist honors at the Cleveland Classic Palmetto Intercollegiate. Kohles shot a 7-under-par 63 in the second round to tie Virginia’s single-round scoring record. He had two other top-15 finishes for the month of March including a 10th place finish at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational and 14th place finish at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
