Administaff Augusta State Invitational
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Duke carded a team score of 280 in the final round today to finish in third (287-276-280=843, -21) at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Junior Wes Roach fired a team-best 67 in his last 18 holes to lead Duke to a top-three showing.
Duke and tournament champion Augusta State were the only two teams in the field to have every golfer end the tournament below par.
Clemson, SC-Corbin Mills finished with a nine-under-par score of 207 for the three rounds, and Jacob Burger fired a final round 69 to lead Clemson to a fourth-place team finish at the 18-team Administaff Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, GA. It was Clemson's final regular season tournament before play begins at the ACC Tournament on April 23 at the Old North State Course in Uwharrie Point, NC.
Clemson record the fourth place finish even though it was without its best player, Ben Martin, who is preparing to play in next week's Masters.
Clemson finished with a 19-under par score of 845 on the par 72 course that is 7,161 yards in length. Host school Augusta State won the tournament with a 47-under par score of 821. Clemson shot under par in all three rounds as a team and the 19-under par figure was the second best all year for Larry Penley's team. Clemson shot a 21-under score (843) at the Puerto Rico Classic in February.
AUGUSTA, Ga.– The Virginia Tech golf team posted a three-round total of 865 and finished 12th in the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational, at the par 72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Tech shot a final round of two-under-par 286 on Sunday after rounds of 296 and 283 on Saturday.
Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) finished in a tie for 20th place after shooting a final round one-under-par 71 for a three-round total of four-under-par 212. He wound up 11 strokes behind medalist Henrik Norlander of host Augusta State.
Sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) tied for 47th place at 218 and junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) finished in a tie for 55th place at 220, following a final round four-under-par 68. Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) tied for 65th at 222 and freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) tied for 80th at 226.
River Landing Intercollegiate
The North Carolina men's golf team fired a four-under-par 284 in the final round of the River Landing Intercollegiate, but it wasn't quite enough. Co-host UNC Wilmington fired a six-under 282 and the Seahasks' 17-under 847 total edged out the Carolina's 15-under 849 total. Four Tar Heels carded top-11 finishes led by junior Henry Zaytoun III who placed third.
Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., fired a one-under 71 in the final round for a six-under-par 210 total, just three strokes behind the individual medalist. Sophomore Jack Fields had the low round of the day for the Tar Heels firing a four-under 68. The Southern Pines, N.C., native tied for fourth place at five-under 211. Senior Chase MacFarland and freshman Michael McGowan tied for 11th place with two-under 214 totals. MacFarland, from Savannah, Ga., fired an even par 72 on Saturday while McGowan, from Southern Pines, carded a one-over 73. Junior Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., posted a three-over 75 for an eight-over 224 total to tie for 46th place.
