ACC Championship Chase 5K Presented by Harris Teeter Set for Dec. 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The second annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Chase 5K presented by Harris Teeter will take place the morning of Saturday, Dec 1. The ACC Championship Chase 5K presented by Harris Teeter signifies the official kickoff of the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship day festivities.

Registration will be $20 in advance and $25 the morning of the race. An ACC Championship Chase 5K t-shirt is guaranteed for all registrations prior to November 26 and will be available for day-of registrations while supplies last. Participants who preregister online may select an ACC school affiliation (team) to run under and all participants are strongly encouraged to dress in their favorite ACC team gear and colors. The school that has the most preregistered participants by Wednesday, November 28 will win an exclusive post-race experience.

Race-day registration, packet pick-up and chip pick-up will begin at 7 a.m. on the Wells Fargo Plaza at South Tyron Street between East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 3rd street. The race will start at 8 a.m. with ACC mascots and cheerleaders on hand to root on participants throughout the course. Post-race celebration will also take place on the Wells Fargo Plaza and feature the awards ceremony, food, beverages, live entertainment and all of the ACC mascots and cheerleaders.

The top male, female and wheelchair winner will receive a medal, a $50 gift card to Harris Teeter, a $50 gift card to Dicks Sporting Goods and a special gift from the ACC. All age group winners will receive a medal and gift certificate to Dicks Sporting Goods.

All of the proceeds from the ACC Championship Chase 5K presented by Harris Teeter along with any direct donations will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) as part of the 2012 ACC Football conference-wide, season-long initiative to honor the nation’s military. WWP exists to honor and empower wounded warriors who incurred service-connected injuries on or after Sept. 11, 2001. With the mission to honor and empower, WWP is the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs.

2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship: The 2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game will be played Dec. 1 in prime time at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium and will feature the Atlantic Division Champion against the Coastal Division Champion.  Tickets for the general public are on sale.  The game will be nationally televised.
