ACC announces 2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game Schedule of Events

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Below is a schedule of events surrounding the 2012 ACC Football Championship Game:

Thursday, Nov. 29:

Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Square: The Atlantic Coast Conference will join in Uptown Charlotte’s Holidays in the City festivities for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 29, which begins at 5:30 p.m. The Charlotte Center City Partners event is scheduled to be held at The Square, located at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets and will feature the 12 league mascots along with holiday music, dance, strolling performers and singers, and Santa Claus.

Friday, Nov. 30:

ACC Night of Legends presented by The Belk Bowl: The ACC will host the ACC Night of Legends on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Charlotte Convention Center. This signature event pays tribute to the outstanding athletes from the ACC’s programs, both past and present. The event will honor the 2012 ACC Football season’s award winners, as well as a Legend from each ACC institution representing their university during the 2012 ACC Football Championship game in Charlotte. A reception begins at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m.  Night of Legends event tickets are still available but are selling quickly. ACC Football Fan Central at EpiCentre:  The popular Uptown Charlotte destination will serve as headquarters for all ACC football fans on Nov. 30, the night before the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship game. ACC Football Fan Central starts at 7 p.m. with bands set to perform at 9 p.m. The event features special appearances by ACC team mascots, pep bands and cheerleaders.

Saturday, Dec. 1:

ACC Championship Chase 5K Presented by Harris Teeter: The second annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Chase 5K presented by Harris Teeter will take place the morning of Saturday, Dec 1. The ACC Championship Chase 5K presented by Harris Teeter signifies the official kickoff of the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship day festivities.  Race-day registration, packet pick-up and chip pick-up will begin at 7:00 a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m. with the start/finish line located on South Tyron Street between Third Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Uptown Charlotte. ACC mascots and cheerleaders will be on hand to root on participants throughout the course. Post-race celebration will take place at the Wells Fargo Plaza on South Tyron Street between East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Third Street. The post-race party will feature the awards ceremony, food, beverages, live entertainment and all of the ACC mascots and cheerleaders.

ACC FanFest presented by AT&T: Free to the general public, ACC FanFest activities will run from noon until 7 p.m. on Mint Street between Morehead and Stonewall/Graham Street, adjacent to Bank of America Stadium East and North gates. Rain or shine, ACC FanFest will encompass a large area of interactive games, team bands, mascots, pep rallies, Corporate Champion attractions and giveaways, food and beverages, live entertainment and autograph opportunities with ACC Legends. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase official game merchandise and game programs. Highlighting the afternoon will be a live performance by former Clemson football player Lee Brice and CMA award winner Little Big Town.

Cheer Clinic and Performance: Leaders in the sport of cheerleading will hold clinics teaching new cheers, chants and dances on Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Charlotte Convention Center. ACC cheerleaders will be on hand to meet clinic participants. The event begins at noon. After a hard day of work, the youth cheerleaders will perform at FanFest on Saturday from 5:15 to 7 p.m.

ACC Football Officials’ Mini-Clinic:  The Atlantic Coast Conference will hold its fourth annual Football Officials’ Mini-Clinic on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the Charlotte Convention Center. The event, which focuses on youth, high school and college officiating, will cover topics such as communication techniques, career development and officiating mechanics for all levels.

ACC Youth Skills & Drills Clinic: The ACC brings youth participants into an atmosphere where they can excel and learn the skills of football. Participants will receive a ticket to the 2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game, a $10 Dick’s Sporting Goods bonus certificate, a Fuel Pizza meal coupon and a fan pack. The Youth Skills & Drills Clinic will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Carolina Panthers practice field adjacent to Bank of America Stadium.

2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship: The 2012 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game will be played Dec. 1 in prime time at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium and will feature the Atlantic Division Champion against the Coastal Division Champion. Tickets for the general public are on sale. The game will be nationally televised.
