The ninth week of the ACC’s Road to Charlotte begins with a Thursday Night nationally televised game on ESPN (7:30 pm) featuring 16th-ranked Florida State meeting NC State at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C...The Seminoles of Coach Jimbo Fisher are unbeaten (4-0) in conference play and sit atop the ACC’s Atlantic Division, while the Wolfpack of coach Tom O’Brien is 2-1 in the ACC and tied for 2nd place in the Atlantic Division with Maryland... The game figures to be a matchup of two of the top quarterbacks in the nation in FSU senior Christian Ponder and NC State junior Russell Wilson... Ponder has completed 60.2 percent of his passes while guiding a balanced offensive attack...Wilson ranks 4th nationally in total offense, averaging 332 yards per game...A salty Seminole defense leads the nation in QB sacks and is 5th in tackles for loss and 13th in scoring defense... The two teams have met four times on ESPN on Thursday Night--all in Raleigh--with the Seminoles holding a 3-1 advantage, though the last three meetings have been decided by 9 or fewer points...Two other Atlantic Division clashes are on tap as Clemson, coached by Dabo Swinney and led by RB Andre Ellington and DE Da’Quan Bowers visit Boston College in a noon game (ACC Network) at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass... Ellington leads the ACC in touchdowns (12) and is averaging 6.3 yards per carry, while Bowers leads the nation in QB sacks and tackles for loss...The Eagles, coached by Frank Spaziani, respond with TB Montel Harris, the ACC’s leading rusher, and LB Luke Kuechly, the nation’s leading tackler... In College Park, Md., coach Ralph Friedgen’s Terrapins are looking to keep pace in the Atlantic Division race, hosting Wake Forest in a 3:30 pm (ESPNU) game at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium...The Terps, who are tied for 2nd in the Atlantic and need just one win to become bowl eligible, are led by freshman QB Danny O’Brien and an aggressive defense which features big play SS Kenny Tate, who leads all ACC defensive backs in tackles (8.0 per game)... Wake, coached by Jim Grobe, is looking to snap a five-game losing streak behind the play of a pair of freshmen in RB Josh Harris and QB Tanner Price and junior DE Kyle Wilber...In Charlottesville, Va., the Cavaliers of coach Mike London will host the 22nd-ranked Miami Hurricanes, coached by Randy Shannon, in a noon game (ESPN) at Scott Stadium... UVa with senior QB Marc Verica at the helm, is looking for its first ACC win of the year, while the Hurricanes, led by QB Jacory Harris and DE Allen Bailey are looking to close the gap with Coastal Division leader Virginia Tech, which is off this week along with Georgia Tech...Two ACC teams step out of conference, as David Cutcliffe’s Duke team heads to Annapolis, Md., (3:30 pm, CBSCS) to face a Navy squad fresh off a 35-17 mauling of Notre Dame...The Blue Devils are led by WR Conner Vernon, who leads the ACC in pass receptions and reception yardage, and LB Abraham Kromah, who is 3rd in the ACC in tackles per game... In Chapel Hill, N.C., coach Butch Davis’ Tar Heels host William & Mary, the nation’s 5th-ranked FCS team in a 3:30 pm game at Kenan Memorial Stadium (ESPN3.com)... UNC is led by QB T.J. Yates, who is 17th on the ACC’s career passing yardage list (7,594 yards) and is 2nd in the ACC in pass efficiency, and LB Zach Brown who has managed double figures in tackles in each of the past two weeks.
