Three ACC Teams Ranked in AP, USA Today Coaches Poll led by No. 16/17 Florida State... 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech and 25th-ranked Miami Join Seminoles in Top 25... Four Conference Games Highlighted by Georgia Tech-Clemson and North Carolina at 25th-ranked Hurricanes.

  • Week Eight of the Atlantic Coast Conference's "Road to Charlotte" opens with three ACC teams ranked in the nation's Top 25...Atlantic Division leader Florida State, which is idle this week, is ranked 16th in AP and 17th in the USA Today Coaches poll, and is followed by 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech, the ACC's Coastal Division leader and 25th-ranked Miami... The Hurricanes of coach Randy Shannon host streaking North Carolina in an important nationally televised (ESPN2, 7:30 pm) Coastal Division contest at Sun Life Stadium in Miami... Both teams are 2-1 in the ACC and are chasing Virginia Tech (3-0)...The host Hurricanes are led by TB Damien Berry, who is on a streak of his own after recording his third straight 100-yard rushing effort with 111 yards against Duke, and a stingy pass defense which is ranked 2nd nationally in defensive pass efficiency and 4th in pass defense after picking off five Blue Devil passes... The Tar Heels of coach Butch Davis enter on a four-game winning streak led by QB T.J. Yates, who has the lowest interception rate in the nation (0.55)...Yates has thrown 11 TD passes but has only one interception in 182 attempts...In Clemson, S.C., the Tigers of coach Dabo Swinney, led by DE Da'Quan Bowers, who leads the nation in QB sacks (1.50/gm) and tackles for loss (2.50/gm), host the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech in the team's first meeting since the 2009 ACC Championship Game...The game at Memorial Stadium will have a 3:30 pm kickoff and will be televised regionally by ABC and to most of the rest of the nation on ESPN... Tech, coached by Paul Johnson, is led by QB Joshua Nesbitt, the focal point of an offense which ranks 2nd nationally in rushing... Nesbitt needs just 44 yards to set an ACC career mark for most rushing yardage by a quarterback, a mark currently held by former Clemson standout Woodrow Dantzler (2,712)... 12 of the last 15 meetings by the two teams, including the last three, have been decided by 5 points or less...In Blacksburg, Va., 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech looks to maintain its lead in the Coastal Division, hosting Duke in a Noon game (ACC Network) at Lane Stadium... Coach Frank Beamer's Hokies, by QB Tyrod Taylor, have won five straight games, including three ACC contests...Taylor, who leads the ACC in passing efficiency, has become only the second player in ACC history to run for over 2,000 yards (2,017) and pass for over 5,000 (5,596) yards in his career (Dantzler is the other)...Duke is led by sophomore WR Conner Vernon, who leads the ACC in pass receptions (6.2) and pass receiving yardage (96.8)...In Chestnut Hill, Mass., coach Frank Spaziani's Boston College squad, led by the nation's leading tackler in LB Luke Kuechly (13.7/gm) and the ACC's leading rusher in TB Montel Harris (96.3), host coach Ralph Friedgen's Maryland Terrapins in a 1 pm (ESPN3.com) Atlantic Division game at Alumni Stadium... The Terps are led by LB Alex Wujciak, who is 11th nationally in tackles (11.0) and WR Tony Logan, who ranks 2nd nationally in punt returns (24.61)...In Charlottesville, the Virginia Cavaliers of coach Mike London step out of conference to host Eastern Michigan of the MAC in a 6 pm game (ESPN3.com) at Scott Stadium...UVa is led by DE Cam Johnson, who is tied for 4th in the ACC in sacks, 5th in tackles for loss and 2nd in forced fumbles...16th-ranked Florida State, NC State and Wake Forest are not in action this week.
