GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina’s John Henson has been named ACC Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Duke’s Austin Rivers picked up his third ACC Rookie of the Week honor.
Henson averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots in North Carolina wins over Evansville and Long Beach State. In Tuesday’s 97-48 win over Evansville, Henson had 13 points, 12 boards and three blocks. Four days later, the Tampa, Fla., junior led the fourth-ranked Tar Heels in points (24), rebounds (10) and blocks (4) in a 84-78 victory over Long Beach State. Henson was 17-of-23 (.739) from the floor in the two games.
Rivers averaged a team-high 17.5 points per game in leading seventh-ranked Duke to wins over Colorado State and Washington. The Winter Park, Fla., freshman guard was 11-of-22 from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range, and 8-of-10 from the foul line for the week, while also adding 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He scored a team-high 17 points in Duke’s 87-64 win over Colorado State Wednesday. In Saturday’s 86-80 victory over Washington, Rivers tallied a team-high 18 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action.
