Noting ACC Men's Basketball: Opening Weekend Coverage

Nov. 9, 2011

When ACC basketball's 59th season tips off this weekend, all 14 games involving conference members will be broadcast on television or via Internet streaming. The busy weekend represents the start of a new partnership of unprecedented scope with ESPN, which will transmit 11 of the 14 games through at least one of its media platforms.

The schedule includes:

  • North Carolina's game with Michigan State from the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego, to be aired on ESPN at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. The aircraft carrier's deck will host 7,000 spectators, including President Barack Obama.
  • ESPNU games featuring Duke on Friday and Saturday and North Carolina on Sunday. The Blue Devils begin play at 9 p.m. Friday by hosting Belmont in the ESPN EA Sports Maui Invitational, and they welcome Presbyterian College at 4:30 the following afternoon. The Tar Heels return from California in time to play at UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. Sunday.
  • Seven contests exclusive to ESPN3, the Internet streaming platform.
  • The conference's official website, theACC.com, will serve as the host for the debuts of three of the league's four new coaches this season: Jim Larranaga of Miami and Mark Gottfried of NC State at 7 p.m. Friday and Maryland's Mark Turgeon at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Throughout the season, ACC teams will make more than 300 total television appearances, nearly 200 of which will be on national outlets.
