March 18, 2013

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Three members of conference champion Miami have been named to the inaugural Coaches All-ACC Basketball Defensive Team, which was announced on Monday.

The team was selected by the league’s 12 head coaches. Voting took place prior to this past weekend’s ACC Tournament and was based on regular-season performance.

The Miami backcourt duo of Shane Larkin and Durand Scott was cited, along with Hurricanes’ forward/center Julian Gamble. Virginia’s Jontel Evans, Duke’s Mason Plumlee and Florida State’s Michael Snaer complete the squad.

Larkin (2.0) and Scott (1.6) rank second and third respectively among ACC players in steals per game, while Gamble ranks fourth in blocked shots at 1.8 per game. Evans’ defensive presence keys a Virginia unit that has yielded an ACC-low 55.1 point per game.

The 6-foot-10 Plumlee has been a major inside presence for Duke while ranking among the ACC leaders in blocked shots, while Snaer continued his role as Florida State’s designated lock-down defender throughout his senior season.
