GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia senior forward Mike Scott has been named the ACC Player of the Week and Duke’s Austin Rivers is the conference’s Rookie of the Week for the period ending March 4.
In earning his fourth ACC Player of the Week honor this season, Scott had back-to-back double-doubles and averaged 31.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in conference games with Florida State and Maryland. The Chesapeake, Va., native was 20-of-35 (57.1) from the field in the two games and 23-of-29 (79.3 percent) from the free-throw line. He also had three assists, two blocked shots and one steal.
In earning the league’s rookie award for the ninth time, Rivers averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as Duke split a pair of games against Wake Forest and North Carolina. The Winter Park, Fla., product had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals in Tuesday’s 79-71 win at Wake Forest. In Saturday’s 88-70 loss to North Carolina, Rivers had 15 points, three assists and one rebound.
