GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland’s Terrapins made a clean sweep of this week’s ACC basketball honors as senior Greivis Vasquez was named ACC Player of the Week and freshman Jordan Williams earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
In earning the Player of the Week Award for the second-straight week and fourth time this season, Vasquez was a unanimous selection after averaging 28.0 points, 9.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds as Maryland extended its win streak to five in a row with ACC victories over Clemson and Virginia Tech.
In Wednesday’s 88-79 win over the visiting Tigers, the Caracus, Venezuela, senior turned in his 12th career double-double with 15 points, 13 assists and two rebounds. Three nights later in a 104-100 double-overtime road victory over the Hokies, Vasquez scored a career-high 41 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Vasquez’s 41 points mark only the fifth time in league history that an ACC player has scored 40-or-more points in a league road game.
In earning the Rookie of the Week Award for the second time this season, Williams averaged 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in Maryland’s two wins last week.
In Wednesday’s nine-point win over Clemson, the Torrington, Conn., freshman made 8-of-12 from the field and scored 18 points to go along with five rebounds, one blocked shot and one steal. In Saturday’s double-overtime win at Virginia Tech, Williams pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds, scored nine points and blocked two shots.
