GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech's Jeff Allen has been selected as the ACC Player of the Week, and North Carolina's Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall were named the Co-ACC Rookies of the Week following their outstanding performances.
Allen recorded a pair of double-doubles in conference road games this past week. He opened the week with a 15-point, 11-rebound performance in a 77-69 win at NC State Wednesday. In Saturday's 58-56 loss at Boston College, the Washington, D.C., senior scored 25 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and had three steals. Allen now has four consecutive double-doubles, 11 this season and 39 for his career, which is tops among active ACC players.
Barnes was the leading scorer in each of North Carolina's ACC wins this past week. The Ames, Iowa, freshman had a game-high and career-best 26 points in Tuesday's 106-74 victory at Boston College. In Sunday's 89-69 win over Florida State, Barnes had a game-high 17 points and a season-high tying 10 rebounds
Marshall had 22 assists and five turnovers combined in North Carolina's two ACC wins this past week. The Dumfries, Va., native opened the week with a seven-point, six-assist effort in a 32-point win at Boston College. In Sunday's 89-69 victory over Florida State, Marshall had 16 assists and nine points against the Seminoles' No. 1 nationally-ranked defense. The 16 assists are a UNC freshman record for assists in any game and the most assists ever by a Tar Heel in an ACC game (includes 948 career regular season and Tournament games).
