GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest's Ishmael Smith has been named ACC Player of the Week while Georgia Tech's has earned ACC Rookie of the Week recognition.
Smith averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists as the Demon Deacons moved to 4-2 in league play with a pair of key conference wins this past week. The Concord, N.C., senior opened the week with a 20-point, seven-rebound and six-assist performance in an 82-69 win at 23rd-ranked North Carolina Wednesday. Three days later, Smith had 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots in a 69-57 victory over Virginia that snapped the Cavaliers' eight-game winning streak.
In earning the Rookie Award for the second time this season, Favors posted a pair of double-doubles last week as the Yellow Jackets spilt a pair of ACC games. The Atlanta, Ga., native had 17 points and 14 rebounds in Tech's 66-64 win over No. 17 Clemson Tuesday, and 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-66 road loss to Florida State Sunday. For the week, Favors made 12-of-21 shots (.571) from the floor, blocked five shots and had two steals.
