GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Jeff Allen has been named the ACC Player of the Week, while NC State’s C.J. Leslie was selected the ACC Rookie of the Week following their outstanding performances this past week.
Allen, despite battling a strained groin, scored a season-high 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Hokies to their sixth-straight win, 71-59 over ACC foe Florida State Saturday. In coming up with his third-straight double-double, and his fifth in six games, the Washington, D.C., senior was seven-of-12 from the floor and a career-best 10-of-12 from the line.
In earning the league’s rookie award for a second time in three weeks and the third time this season, Leslie averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and shot 65 percent from the floor (13-of-20) as the Wolfpack won twice. The Holly Springs, N.C., freshman opened the week with a 19-point, nine-rebound performance in an 87-72 win over Elon Wednesday. In Saturday’s 90-69 victory over visiting Wake Forest, Leslie had 19 points and six rebounds as the Wolfpack extended their win streak to five games.
