Hokies defeat UNCG, 92-70

Virginia Tech used solid defense and a balanced scoring attack to defeat UNC Greensboro, 92-70 in non-conference men's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum. With the win, the Hokies improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 0-3.

The Hokie defense forced UNCG into 29 turnovers, 20 of which went toward Tech steals. Seven different Hokie recorded steals on the day, including a career-high five steals by guard Erick Green. The 20 steals for the Hokies were one shy of the school record of 21 steals.

The host Spartans led by as many as seven points early in the contest, but Tech went on a 21-14 run in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 43-32 lead into intermission. UNCG was able to keep the Tech lead relatively within reason until the Hokies opened the lead up to as many as 26 points before clearing the bench in the final minutes.
