No. 1 Heels Rout MVSU, 101-75, in Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - John Henson had 18 points and 14 rebounds to help top-ranked North Carolina beat Mississippi Valley State 101-75 on Sunday.

Harrison Barnes also had 18 points for the Tar Heels (3-0), who had little trouble winning their home opener in a ragged game. North Carolina never trailed, led by 14 at halftime then blew the game open in the final 10 minutes to lead by as many as 30.

Loucks, Defense Shine in Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - South Alabama may have been the first out-of-state opponent to face the No. 24 Florida State men's basketball team at the Donald L. Tucker Center this season but the 'Noles' recipe for success was the same that it's been in wins over Sunshine State schools Jacksonville, UCF and Stetson.

In an 80-39 triumph over the Jaguars Sunday at home, FSU (4-0) rode its defense to victory while also getting double-digit scoring from multiple players on the offensive end.

Deacons Pull Away, Remain Perfect With 93-79 Win Over NC Central

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After a tight first half, Wake Forest broke away with a 17-6 run to open the second half and defeated NC Central 93-79 on Sunday night at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

The Demon Deacons maintained their clean sheet for the season by moving to 3-0 with the win. NC Central dropped to 1-3 after back-to-back losses.

Terps Fall to Iona, 89-63, in San Juan

SAN JUAN, P.R. (AP) - Mike Glover had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Scott Machado had 15 points and 15 assists Sunday to lead Iona to an 89-63 victory over Maryland in the fifth-place game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.

Lamont Jones scored 22 points to lead the Gaels (2-1). Iona led 37-34 at halftime, but shot 66 percent from the field in the second half to turn the game into a runaway. The Gaels finished at 55 percent from outside.

Jackets Fall to LSU, 59-50

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Georgia Tech (3-2) got as close as 50-49, but couldn't convert to a lead and the Jackets fell to the Tigers, 59-50, at the Charleston Classic on Sunday.

Anthony Hickey scored 20 points to lead LSU to victory and fifth place at the Charleston Classic on Sunday.
