GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Seven Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's 2012 All-America Team, including four first-team selections.
ACC Player of the Year James Ramsey, senior outfielder of Florida State, earned first-team honors, as did ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year Carlos Rodon of NC State. Joining them on the first team were a pair of the nation's top relievers in North Carolina's Michael Morin and Florida State's Robert Benincasa.
FSU first baseman Jayce Boyd, who will join Ramsey and Benincasa in leading the Seminoles in the 66th College World Series that gets under way Friday in Omaha, Neb., earned second-team honors. NC State freshman third baseman Trea Turner earned a spot on the third team, as did Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman.
Ramsey and Stroman were first-round selections in the Major League Baseball Draft held earlier this month. UNC's Morin set an ACC single-season record for saves with 19, and NC State's Turner leads the nation in stolen bases with 57. NC State's Rodon was named the NCBWA's Freshman Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday.
