GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were named to the 2011 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team announced on Monday.
North Carolina third baseman Colin Moran, the ACC Freshman of the Year, was honored, along with Georgia Tech outfielder Kyle Wren and Clemson relief pitcher Kevin Pohle. Moran and Wren were first-team selections, while Pohle was named to the second team.
A first team All-ACC selection, Moran enters the 2011 College World Series batting .335 with 9 homers and an ACC-leading 69 RBI. Georgia Tech’s Wren, another first-team All-ACC pick, hit .340 with 19 extra base bits, 32 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 23 attempts. Clemson’s Pohle posted a 5-2 record with a 1.93, allowing just seven earned runs in 32.2 innings pitched.
The 2011 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 14.
