ACC Postseason Notes
Seven up for NCAAs
With seven ACC teams among this year’s 64-team field for the 2011 NCAA Championship, the ACC has placed at least seven teams in postseason play for the third straight year and the sixth time in seven years.
NCAA streaks extended
Miami made the NCAA postseason field for the 39th consecutive year, extending its own record. Florida State is making its 34th straight appearance, second all-time. Those are the nation’s two current longest streaks, with Cal-State Fullerton’s 20 straight appearances ranking third.
Among the elite
Three ACC schools rank among the nation’s top six in total NCAA Division I Baseball postseason appearances: Florida State (second with 49), Miami (third with 40) and Clemson (tied for fifth with 36).
Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina are three of just 10 schools nationally to go to a bowl game, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and the NCAA Baseball Tournament during the 2010-11 academic year. Each of the last five ACC Champions - Florida State (2010), Virginia (2009), Miami (2008), North Carolina (2007), Clemson (2006) - have gone on to reach the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
