ACCOLADES

Seven ACC teams - including two of the of the top six national seeds - will be among the 64-team field when the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship gets under way with Regional play on Friday ... Atlantic Division champion Florida State earned the No. 3 overall seed, while Coastal Division champion North Carolina is seeded sixth nationally ... FSU, Miami, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia were named as home teams for this weekend, giving the ACC a national-best five Regional hosts ... Georgia Tech earned an automatic NCAA berth by virtue of winning the ACC Championship ... Clemson earned an at-large selection, giving the ACC seven teams among this year's field ... Clemson will open play as the No. 2 seed in the Columbia, S.C., Regional hosted by two-time defending NCAA champion South Carolina, while Georgia Tech will compete as the No. 2 seed in the Gainesville, Fla., Regional hosted by No. 1 national seed Florida.

BY THE NUMBERS

.739 - Atlantic Coast Conference teams own a .739 record against nonconference opposition entering NCAA tournament play (216-76-1).

5 - North Carolina has reached the College World Series at Omaha, Neb. five of the previous six seasons.

7 - The ACC placed seven teams in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Championship. The conference has placed at least five teams in the field each of the past 11 years and at least six teams each of the past nine seasons.

8 - Georgia Tech punched its ticket to the 2012 NCAA Championship by becoming the first No. 8 seed to win the ACC title.

9 - Virginia will be competing in its ninth-consecutive NCAA tournament and is one of 10 schools to play in each of the last nine tournaments.

29 - Florida State is hosting an NCAA Regional for the 29th time in program history. The Seminoles are making their 50th all-time postseason appearance.

37 - Clemson is making its 37th all-time appearance in the NCAA tournament field, fifth most all-time.

40 - Miami is in the NCAA field for the 40th consecutive year, extending its own record. Florida State is making its 35th straight appearance, which ranks second all-time.

126 - NC State freshman Carlos Rodon ranks thrid among NCAA pitchers with 126 strikeouts after fanning 12 batters in the Wolfpack's ACC Championship game vs. North Carolina on May 26.

10,229 - Record ACC Championship single-game attendance for North Carolina's 4-0 win over NC State in 12 innings on May 26.

ACC Postseason Notes ...

Eight is great
With four straight wins in last week's ACC Championship, Georgia Tech became the first No. 8 seeded team to capture the title. MVP Jake Davies did a bit of everything with four home runs, 11 RBI and six innings of solid work as a starting pitcher (two hits, one run allowed in Saturday's 5-1 win over Clemson).

Seven up for NCAAs
With seven ACC teams among this year's 64-team field for the 2012 NCAA Championship, the ACC has placed at least seven teams in postseason play for the fourth straight year and the seventh time in eight years.

Among the elite
Three ACC schools rank among the nation's top five in total NCAA Division I Baseball postseason appearances: Florida State (second with 50), Miami (third with 41) and Clemson (fifth with 37).

Trending upward
Each of the last six ACC Champions - Virginia (2011), Florida State (2010), Virginia (2009), Miami (2008), North Carolina (2007), Clemson (2006) - have gone on to reach the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Bringing in the crowds
Buoyed by the May 26 single-game record crowd of 10,229 for the matchup between North Carolina and NC State, attendance for the 2012 ACC Baseball Championship at Greensboro, N.C., was the fifth-highest in the 39-year history of the event. The tournament's eight largest attended all-time:

The single-game crowd of 10, 229 for the North Carolina-NC State game also set the single-game attendance record for NewBridge Bank Park and represented the largest crowd ever to watch a college baseball game in the state of North Carolina. Average per game attendance for the 2012 ACC Baseball Championship was 4,071.
