ACCOLADES

Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Clemson and Miami have nailed down six of the eight spots in the 2012 ACC Championship, slated for May 23-27 at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. ... The remaining two teams will be determined by the outcomes of the final ACC series of the regular season, set for Thursday through Saturday ... Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland and Boston College all remain in mathematical contention for the final two spots ... Weekend action finds Boston College at Duke, Clemson at Wake Forest, No. 13 NC State at No. 1 Florida State, No. 19 Virginia at Maryland, Virginia Tech at No. 7 North Carolina, and No. 21 Miami at Georgia Tech ... Virginia infielder Stephen Bruno was named the ACC Player of the Week for the period of May 7-13, and North Carolina’s Shane Taylor claimed Pitcher of the Week honors ... Ten ACC teams are ranked among the Top 40 of the most recent NCAA RPI report.

BY THE NUMBERS

3 - Base runners allowed in eight innings by ACC Pitcher of the Week Shane Taylor of North Carolina in last Sunday’s win over Duke, including just one via a base hit.

8 - RBI in four games by ACC Player of the Week Stephen Bruno of Virginia, who had at least one RBI in each contest while leading the Cavaliers to three wins in four games.

10 - ACC student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Teams (Clemson’s Phil Pohl, Duke’s Will Piwnica-Worms, Florida State’s Peter Miller and James Ramsey, Georgia Tech’s Sam Dove and Brandon Thomas, Maryland’s Brett Harman and Kyle Convissar, NC State’s Vance Williams and Wake Forest’s Evan Stephens)

11 - Eleven ACC teams have played schedules ranked among the 26 strongest nationally by independent analyst Warren Nolan, led by Miami (fourth-strongest).

13 - Keyed by Mac Williamson’s two home runs and five RBI, Wake Forest tied a school record with 13 runs in the first inning of Tuesday night’s 18-2 win over Charlotte.

18 - Virginia Tech has won 18 straight games vs. nonconference teams.

30 - Nine ACC teams have now won at least 30 games, and Wake Forest needs one more win to reach that plateau. Top-ranked Florida State has reached the 40-win mark for the 35th straight year.

50 - NC State freshman Trea Turner is the third player in ACC history to steal at least 30 bases in a season. Turner, who has stolen 51 bases iin 50 games, joins North Carolina’s Brian Roberts (63 in 1998) and Georgia Tech’s Ty Griffin (50 in 1986) on the elite list.
