GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State senior Mike McGee has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Seminole junior Sean Gilmartin claimed ACC Pitcher of the Week honors presented by Chevrolet.
McGee and Gilmartin paced the sixth-ranked Seminoles to a 3-1 week against Top 50 RPI opponents Jacksonville (on the road) and UCF (home).
McGee led the `Noles in virtually every offensive category - batting (.529), hits (9), RBI (7) and total bases (16) - while contributing a pair of homers and capping the weekend by taking the mound and pitching seven innings of one-hit baseball in Sunday's 6-1 win over UCF. McGee, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., took over the team batting lead (.353) and grabbed sole possession of fifth place on Florida State's career home run list with 51.
Gilmartin, named ACC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, turned in his 12th consecutive quality start in Friday night's series opener against UCF, limiting the Knights to three hits over seven innings, with 11 strikeouts and just one walk in FSU's 8-0 win. He improved to 8-1 on the year and has now contributed to three of the Seminoles' six shutouts on the season. UCF came into the game hitting .309 but batted just .125 against the Moorpark, Calif., left-hander, who lowered his ACC-leading opponents' batting average to .175.
