  • Georgia Tech emerges from the weekend in sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division following a three-game sweep of Miami in Coral Gables
  • The Yellow Jackets have won 16 straight
  • Virginia, 24-2 following an ACC series sweep of Maryland, moves up to No. 1 in the both the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and the Collegiate Baseball rankings
  • The Coaches Poll also includes North Carolina (No. 6), Florida State (tied for No. 7) and Georgia Tech (10th) among its top 10

7 - Shutouts thrown by Virginia’s pitching staff this season, including back-to-back efforts vs. Towson last week.

11 - Strikeouts registered by ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week Tim Cooney of Wake Forest during 7.2 innings of an 8-0 shutout win over Florida State on Saturday night.

13 - RBI in five games by ACC Player of the Week Colin Moran of North Carolina, including six in a win over UNC Wilmington and a game-tying three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning of an eventual extra-inning win over Duke on Sunday.

15- North Carolina’s Tommy Coyle has hit safely in 15 straight games, the longest active streak in the ACC at present.

16 - Consecutive wins by Georgia Tech, a streak that includes ACC series sweeps of Maryland, NC State and Miami. North Carolina currently owns a nine-game winning streak, and Virginia has won five in a row.

21 - Games played outside of Chestnut Hill, Mass., by Boston College, which played its first “home” series of the season vs. Virginia Tech this past weekend at the University of Rhode Island.

24 - Consecutive wins on Sundays by Florida State, which has not dropped a Sunday game since losing to Virginia in the title game of the ACC Championship in Durham, N.C., on May 24, 2009.

Boston College
Twenty-one games into the season, the Eagles (10-11, 4-5) are still waiting to play on their home field ... last weekend’s series vs. Virginia Tech, while designated as three “home” games by the NCAA, was played in Kingston, R.I., because of unplayable conditions at Shea Field due to the harsh winter ... that series was supposed to be the Eagles’ home debut, but now they are hopeful of playing their first true home games this weekend, when Miami is scheduled to visit Chestnut Hill for an ACC series ... the Eagles have a Tuesday game at Northeastern and, ironically, make a return trip to Kingston on Wednesday to Rhode Island -- this time as the visiting team.

Clemson (13-9, 4-5) sports an RPI of #7 in the nation according to, which also ranks the 16th-ranked Tigers’ schedule to date as the second-toughest in the nation ... catcher Phil Pohl batted .500 with a .647 on-base percentage in four games last week ... in three games at N.C. State over the weekend, Pohl was 5-for-10 with two doubles and a .615 on-base percentage ... Clemson currently boasts the two top hitters in the ACC in Spencer Kieboom (.455) and Pohl (.439) ... after playing at NC State and hosting Georgia on Tuesday night, the Tigers will make a quick turnaround for another ACC series at North Carolina this weekend.

The Blue Devils lead the ACC with 45 stolen bases and have held non-conference teams to just 3.65 runs per game and a .258 batting average ... sophomore Marcus Stroman hit .545 with three doubles in four games last week, including a 3-for-3, two-double, two-steal performance in the series opener against No. 12 North Carolina over the weekend ... Tuesday sees Duke make a road trip to Campbell, a team it has beaten seven straight times ... the streak includes a 9-2 win on Feb. 22 of this season ... that game saw Duke steal a season-high six bases without being caught on the way to the team’s third-highest run total of the year.

Florida State
The seventh-ranked Seminoles will travel to Jacksonville on Tuesday night to face fellow top 10 rival Florida ... junior right-hander Hunter Scantling is scheduled to get the start against the Gators, who dropped two-of-three games to defending national champion South Carolina over the weekend ... FSU and Florida have already split a pair of meetings this month, with the Seminoles winning 5-3 at Tampa on March 1, and the Gators winning 5-4 in 10 innings at Gainesville on March 16 ... four Seminoles enjoyed multi-RBI games in Sunday’s win over Wake Forest, led by James Ramsey’s three ... Mike McGee, Jayce Boyd and Stuart Tapley knocked in two each.

Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets (21-4, 9-0) own the nation’s longest winning streak at 16 games and are ranked as high as sixth nationally after sweeping last weekend’s ACC road series at Miami ... junior Matt Skole batted .579 on the week, with 11 hits, 11 RBI, two home runs, including a grand slam, a 1.053 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage ... Skole had eight RBI to lead the Jackets to a midweek win over Georgia last Tuesday … the eight RBI were the most in a single game by an ACC player this season, and the most for an ACC player in over a year (the Yellow Jackets’ Jay Dantzler had eight against Maryland on March 20, 2010).

The 2010 season saw Maryland steal a school-record 123 bases. ... the Terps aren’t quite on a pace to match that this season, but they still are tied for third in the ACC in steals with 40 as a team ... Charlie White and Korey Wacker are tied for fourth among conference players with eight steals apiece, and White has yet to be caught stealing ... David Carroll lowered his ERA to 2.56 (15th among ACC pitchers) with a solid outing in a no-decison vs. now top-ranked Virginia on Saturday ... Carroll worked seven innings, allowing four hits, one earned run and just two walks before leaving the game after seven innings.

Harold Martinez made his third straight start at shortstop on Sunday in place of the injured Stephen Perez ... Martinez started at shortstop every game of the Hurricanes’ home series against Georgia Tech and has started all 25 games this season (mainly at third base) ... starting pitcher Eric Whaley fanned a career-high 10 batters through seven innings on Sunday .. it was his third consecutive start with eight-or-more strikeouts, and his fourth of the season ... After committing a combined 10 errors in the previous two games, Miami responded with back-to-back error-free performances on Saturday and Sunday against Georgia Tech.

North Carolina
Freshman third baseman Colin Moran was named the ACC Player of the Week on Monday ... Moran led UNC to a 5-0 week with four home runs and 13 RBI ... Moran started the week with the best single-game performance of his career going 3-for-4 with a run scored and six RBI in the 14-2 win over UNC Wilmington with a season-high three runs scored ... Moran capped off the weekend in style on Sunday vs. Duke, when he connected on a game-tying three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth ... Moran, who was also named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on Monday, currently leads the ACC in RBIs with 35.

NC State
Cory Mazzoni has been named the ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week following a stellar performance in last Friday night’s shutout win over Clemson ... Mazzoni allowed four hits and threw the first complete-game shutout by a Wolfpack pitcher since Mike Rogers and Vern Sterry both shut out No. 1 Texas in a doubleheader on May 15, 2004, in Austin ... Mazzoni allowed a two-out double in the first inning when the left fielder fell down attempting to field the ball, and a leadoff single in the second, then retired the next 16 Clemson hitters in a row and 20 of the next 21 ... Mazzoni set a career high for strikeouts in an ACC game with 10 while walking just two batters.

After allowing just four earned runs in last weekend’s three-game series against Maryland, Virginia (24-2, 8-1) lowered its team ERA to an even 2.00 ... the Cavaliers, who had moved up to No. 1 nationally in two major polls as of Monday afternoon, have posted seven shutouts this season ... sophomore shortstop Chris Taylor hit a team-best .400 last week out of the leadoff spot ... Taylor provided the go-ahead RBI in two of Virginia’s five wins .... In Friday’s win over Maryland, Taylor racked up a career-high four RBI with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a three-run double in UVa’s 10-run fourth inning.

Virginia Tech
Starting pitcher Joe Parsons allowed just three hits and walked only two batters while working a career-high eight innings in Sunday’s 8-1 win over Boston College ... Tony Balisteri scored a career-high four runs and Ronnie Shaban knocked in a season-high four runs for the Hokies ... Sunday’s game at Kingston, R.I., started at 11:33 a.m. ... it marked the third time this season that Virginia Tech has started a game before noon ... the Hokies (14-12) are 3-0 in those contests ... they opened the season with a 4-2 win over Indiana and defeated Tennessee Tech by an 11-9 the following day in another pre-noon game at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Wake Forest
Tim Cooney earned ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after a standout effort in an 8-0 win at fifth-ranked Florida State on Saturday ... the Collegeville, Pa., native struck out 11 batters in his 7.2-inning stint and walked just one, with the walk coming on the second-to-last batter he faced ... Cooney scattered five hits, and six of his 11 strikeouts came against the No. 2 and 3 hitters in the FSU lineup ... Cooney led Wake Forest to its first shutout of Florida State since the third day of the 1999 ACC Championship at Durham, N.C. ... it marked the first time that the Demon Deacons had shut out FSU in Tallahassee since April 1, 1967.
