GREENSBORO, N.C. – The series between Miami and Duke showcased both Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball honorees for this week, as Hurricanes catcher Peter O’Brien was named the ACC Player of the Week and the Blue Devils’ Marcus Stroman was selected as the conference’s Pitcher of the Week.
O’Brien keyed wins against Illinois State on Tuesday and Duke on Sunday with four-RBI performances in each game, and had at least one hit in all but one of Miami’s five games last week. The Miami Gardens, Fla., native had three multi-hit games and remains tied for the ACC lead in home runs (7) after hitting three in the last five games. For the week, O’Brien hit .529 with seven of his nine hits going for extra bases and drove in nine runs.

Stroman struck out every Miami hitter in the lineup at least once. Stroman (2-2) had a strikeout in every inning except the first and struck out the side in the second and sixth innings.. From the fourth through the seventh innings, Stroman struck out nine of the final 14 batters he faced. The 13 strikeouts are the second-highest total of Stroman’s career and marked his sixth double-digit strikeout performance. The Medford, N.Y., native has 52 strikeouts in 33.1 innings this season. Stroman has 49 strikeouts while issuing just seven walks in his last four starts.
