GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State right fielder James Ramsey and Duke right-hander Dennis O'Grady have received the first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors presented by Chevrolet of the 2011 season.
Ramsey was named the ACC Player of the Week after keying the 10th-ranked Seminoles to a season-opening sweep of VMI, while O'Grady earned ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades after a sterling starting effort in Sunday's shutout of visiting Richmond.
FSU's Ramsey opened the season by batting .700 (7-for-10) in three games against VMI. The Alpharetta, Ga., native collected RBI triples in both the Saturday and Sunday games (Ramsey led the Seminoles with six triples last season). Ramsey finished the series with a 1.100 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. He added a spectacular catch crashing into the wall to preserve a shutout in the ninth inning of Friday's opener. Ramsey's prowess at the plate led an offense that produced 36 runs on 38 hits over three games.
Duke's O'Grady started Sunday's rubber game against the Spiders and pitched the first seven innings of a combined 7-0 shutout that clinched the series. The Floral Park, N.Y., native struck out a career-high 10 batters while allowing just two walks and five hits in the win. Richmond hit .346 over the first two games of the series, but O'Grady held the 28 batters he faced to a .200 clip. He allowed no more than one base runner in six of his seven innings of work.
