Six ACC players named Preseason All-America by Baseball America

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were named to the 2010 Baseball America Preseason All-America Team released by the publication on Friday.

Virginia junior Danny Hultzen, the 2010 ACC Pitcher of the Year, was named to the first team at the utility slot. Hultzen posted an 11-1 record and 2.78 ERA last season while striking out 123 batters in 107 innings. Also seeing time at first base, he batted. 281 with 10 RBIs while stealing three bases.

Florida State senior outfielder/pitcher Mike McGee, who received the 2010 John Olerud Award as the nation’s top two-way player, was named to the BA Preseason All-America squad as a second-team utility player. McGee hit .328 last season with 17 home runs and 73 RBIs. As the Seminoles’ closer, McGee posted a 2.96 ERA with 13 saves, along with 4-1 won-lost record. Georgia Tech pitcher Jed Bradley was also named to the second team after posting a 9-5 record while striking out 99 batters in 91 innings in 2010.

Three ACC players – Clemson outfielder Jeff Schaus, Miami third baseman Harold Martinez and North Carolina shortstop Levi Michael – were third-team selections. Schaus hit .320 last season, and his 87 RBIs led the ACC and placed fourth nationally. Martinez tied for the ACC lead in home runs with 21 while driving in 69 runs. Michael hit. 346 win nine home runs, 54 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

ACC teams open their seasons Feb. 18 and conclude regular-season play May 21. The ACC Baseball Championship will be held May 25-29 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
