GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Six Atlantic Coast Conference teams are ranked among the top 30 of the 2011 NCBWA Division I preseason poll released Monday afternoon.
Clemson, picked as the ACC favorite by the league’s head coaches, leads the way at No. 7. Florida State, which joined the Tigers in the 2010 College World Series at Omaha, Neb., is ranked 10th.
Defending ACC Coastal Division champion Virginia is ranked 13th, followed by Miami at No. 20, Georgia Tech at No. 21 and North Carolina at No. 29.
All six of the ACC’s preseason ranked teams earned spots in the 2010 NCAA Tournament and were joined by NC State and Virginia Tech to give the conference a league-record eight teams in postseason play. NC State and Virginia Tech received votes in the 2011 NCBWA preseason poll.
The NCBWA poll voters come from 40 college baseball writers and related media\ persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 35 listing, the remainder of the polls will feature a national Top 30, beginning with the Feb. 21 NCBWA survey.
This week's poll has representation by 12 different conferences among the 300 baseball-playing schools in the 2011 NCAA Division I ranks. The polls of 2010 had teams from 15 different DI conferences rated at least one week. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to www.ncbwa.com.
The Division I College baseball season opens Feb. 18. ACC teams will conclude their regular seasons on Saturday, May 21, with the ACC Baseball Championship slated May 25-29 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
