GREENSBORO, N.C. - Seven Atlantic Coast Conference teams are ranked among the nation's top 30 in the 16th annual 2013 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division I preseason poll released Monday afternoon.
North Carolina leads the way with a No. 2 ranking, while NC State also earned a spot in the top 10 at No. 9. UNC was picked as the ACC Coastal Division favorite last week in a vote of the league's 12 head coaches, while NC State was named as both the overall ACC favorite and the team to beat in the Atlantic Division.
2012 College World Series participant Florida State was ranked 11th, while defending ACC champion Georgia Tech checks in at No. 21. Clemson, Miami and Virginia are ranked 28th through 30th, respectively. In addition, future ACC member Louisville is ranked 19th.
The ACC's seven teams in the preseason poll ranks second to the SEC's nine. All seven teams in the 2013 NCBWA preseason poll earned spots in NCAA postseason play in 2012.
All 12 ACC teams open their seasons with non-conference games on Friday, Feb. 15. The 2013 ACC Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 22 through 26 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
Twelve ACC student-athletes have been named 2013 preseason All-Americans by at least one publication, and five conference teams have been ranked among the top 25 of at least one major preseason poll.
With Florida State reaching the College World Series last season, the ACC has placed a total of 15 teams in Omaha since 2006. Seven ACC teams received NCAA Tournament berths in 2012, and at least five conference teams have been selected for postseason play each of the past 11 seasons.
