Six ACC teams among Baseball America Preseason Top 25

Jan. 27, 2010

DURHAM, N.C - Second-ranked Virginia leads a group of three Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the top 10 and six in the Top 25 of the preseason college rankings released Wednesday by Baseball America.

The defending ACC champion Cavaliers are joined in the top 10 by Georgia Tech at No. 6 and Florida State at No. 9. Clemson is ranked 15th, Miami 16th and North Carolina 20th.

Texas is preseason No. 1 for a record sixth time in the 30-year history of the rankings. The Longhorns, who last topped the preseason rankings in 2006, broke a tie with Stanford for most years starting atop the rankings. Three other 2009 College World Series participants fill the next three slots, highlighted by defending national champion Louisiana State at No. 3. The Southeastern Conference tied the ACC for most among all conferences with three teams in the top 10 and six in the top 25, though the ACC led all leagues in number of teams ranked among the top 20.

All eight participants in last year's CWS start in the 2010 rankings, including Virginia and North Carolina.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Last year's records do not include ties.
