GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five Atlantic Coast Conference teams are ranked among the top 20 of the 2012 Baseball America Preseason Top 25 announced by publication on Tuesday.
2011 College World Series participant North Carolina is ranked ninth, while Georgia Tech is at No. 12, Clemson at No. 16, Miami at No. 18 and Florida State at No. 20.
North Carolina returns 18 letterwinners from a year ago after winning 51 games and advancing to the College World Series for the fifth time in the last six years. Georgia Tech returns 23 letterwinners from a 2011 team that finished 42-21, won a share of the ACC Coastal Division title and reached the NCAA Regional for the 27th time. Clemson, ranked among the Top 25 of at least one major poll for the 24th consecutive season, had a 43-20 overall record in 2011 and returns 20 lettermen.
Miami returns 18 letterwinners from a season ago, in which the Hurricanes finished 38-23 overall (19-10 ACC) and participated in the NCAA Tournament for a record 39th consecutive year. FSU returns 19 players from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Super Regional.
The 2012 college baseball season gets under way Feb. 17, with all 12 ACC teams scheduled to be in action. Fourteen ACC teams have reached the College World Series since 2006.
