GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Jakub Zivec and Colleen Quigley have been named ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week honors following their competition this past weekend.
Zivec turned in the finest performance of his collegiate career at Friday’s Notre Dame Invitational, placing fourth in a field that included 10 nationally ranked teams, leading the 10th-ranked Seminoles to a fourth-place team finish. The junior from Litomerice, Czech Republic, covered the 8K course in 23:40, just seven seconds behind winner Chris O’Hare of Tulsa, who is the reigning NCAA Indoor mile champion. It was a personal-best time over that distance for Zivec.
Quigley scored the first collegiate victory of her career Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational. Leading a strong winning effort by the second-ranked Seminole women, the St. Louis, Mo., sophomore ran the 5K course in a personal-best time of 16:29, only three seconds off the Florida State school record of 16:26 set by four-time All-American Susan Kuijken. Quigley’s victory came against an 18-team field which included 17 schools ranked either nationally or regionally in the USTFCCCA polls.
