2009 ACC All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Headed by Florida State's Susan Kuijken, 10 All-Conference honorees, including four All-Americans, secured spots on the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

The 2009 ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Women's Cross Country, Kuijken captured her third-straight ACC individual title this past fall, completing the 6K course in 19:39.3 as the Seminoles out-distanced runner-up Duke by 34 points en route to their third consecutive ACC title. A senior Sociology major and a four-time All-American in cross country, the Nijmegen, Netherlands native placed third at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind.

All-Academic team members who earned All-ACC honors this past fall are Clemson's Kim Ruck, Duke's Juliet Bottorff and Kate Van Buskirk, Florida State's Pasca Cheruiyot, Jennifer Dunn and Jessica Parry, North Carolina's Ashley Verplank, NC State's Emily Pritt and Virginia's Morgane Gay and Catherine White.

Bottorff, with a 10th-place finish at the ACC Championship, was the 2009 ACC Rookie of the Year while White, the ACC individual runner-up, finished fourth at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

Duke's Emily Schwitzer, Virginia's Stephanie Garcia and NC State's Brittany Tinsley each earned a berth on the league's honor team for a third time in their careers.
