All-ACC Academic Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C.--Virginia Tech senior Matej Muza was named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year by league commissioner John Swofford today, and headlines 40 student-athletes selected to the All-ACC Academic Men's Outdoor Track & Field team. Muza is the only member of the 40-person team who is collecting his fourth All-ACC Academic accolade of his career.

To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point-average in each of the last two semesters and have maintained a 3.00 GPA throughout her career. Student-athletes must have earned a 3.00 GPA during the spring semester and own the same cumulative mark to be eligible for selection to the All-ACC Academic team.

This season Muza earned All-ACC status at the 2010 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships by placing second in the hammer throw with a 215-6.00 mark. At the NCAA championship in Eugene, Ore., Muza posted a 210-1.00 throw to place 11th. In addition to earning his fourth All-ACC Academic accolade and third All-ACC honor in 2010, the Zagreb, Croatia, native was named the Virginia Tech Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A geography major, Muza was awarded an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship and was also selected for the prestigious Thacker Scholarship for his graduate studies, which he has already begun at Virginia Tech.

Also highlighting this year's edition of the All-ACC Academic Men's Outdoor Track & Field team are 13 All-ACC performers, including event champions John Austin and Ryan McDermott of Duke, Brian Chibudu of Florida State, Mateo Sossah of North Carolina, and Brent LaRue of Wake Forest. Also included among the 40-member team are 18 individuals who are earning their second selection to the All-ACC Academic squad, and three-time honorees Miller Moss of Clemson, and John Austin and Ryan McDermott of Duke.

Eleven of the 12 ACC schools are represented on the All-ACC Academic Men's Outdoor Track and Field team, with Florida State's six selections leading the way, followed by North Carolina, Virginia, and Wake Forest's five picks each. Clemson, Duke, and Virginia Tech had four picks apiece, while Georgia Tech, Maryland, and NC State each had two. Boston College rounds out the order with one honoree.
