GREENSBORO, N.C. – A total of nine Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes and coaches were recognized as outdoor track & field regional award recipients, announced today by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The nine individuals represent six conference schools.
On the men’s side Virginia Tech tallied three honors for the Southeast Region. Junior Marcel Lomnicky was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, while Dave Cianelli was selected Men’s Coach of the Year, and Greg Jack was tabbed Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Also recognized was Maryland junior Dwight Barbiasz, the Men’s Field Athlete of the Year from the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Clemson collected two honors on the women’s side for the Southeast Region. Redshirt-junior April Sinkler was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, while Lawrence Johnson was selected Women’s Coach of the Year. Two student-athletes were recognized for the South Region, including Miami senior Ti’erra Brown, the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, and Florida State senior Kim Williams, the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. Duke’s Kevin Jermyn was honored as the Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the Southeast Region.
All five student-athletes will compete in the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which begin Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.
