GREENSBORO, N.C.—The Florida State men’s and women’s 4x100-meter relay teams were named Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Co-Performers of the Week for the period ending May 9, announced today. Each squad set Mike Long Track records at the Seminole Twilight Meet on Saturday en route to posting the second fastest time in the nation.
The men’s team, comprised of freshman David Ambler, junior Brandon Byram, sophomore ACC Championship Most Valuable Track Performer Maurice Mitchell, and junior Brian Chibudu, won the event in 39.06, a time that not only set a track record, but is the fifth-fastest time in school history and ranks second in NCAA Division I this season. The quartet won the 4x100 at last month’s ACC Championship in 39.77, guiding the Seminoles to at least share of their six straight conference title.
The women’s squad, made up of sophomore Candyce McGrone, freshman Marecia Pemberton, sophomore Danielle Jeffrey, and junior Teona Rodgers also posted a new track record of 43.13, a time that ranks second in both Division I this season and school history. The group combined for four All-ACC honors at the ACC Championship, including Pemberton, who won the 100-meter dash, helping the Seminoles to a second-place showing.
The final ACC Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week of the 2010 season will be announced next Tuesday, May 18.
