ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke redshirt junior Austin Gamble has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week, while Virginia Tech sophomore Martina Schultze earned Women’s Performer of the Week honors.

The Blue Devils’ Gamble broke his own school record in the men’s discus with a mark of 190-3 (58.00) in Sunday evening’s Duke Twilight at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Weston, Fla., native’s throw placed first in the event, ranks first in the ACC this season and was good for 19th nationally. Gamble won the event with his second throw of the competition and was one of five Duke champions in the one-day competition.

Schultze had an outstanding week, winning two pole vault competitions within four days to move her winning streak to four since the ACC Outdoor Championships. After breaking her school record a week after ACCs, the Uhingen, Germany, native topped that mark on Wednesday at the Liberty Twilight with a vault of 14-3.25 (4.35m), a mark that ranks fourth nationally this season. Over the weekend, the sophomore won her second competition of the week at the Bob Pollock Invitational, coming up just over an inch shy of her record mark at 14-2 (4.33m). That vault would stand as the seventh best this season
