2011 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Set to Begin Thursday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2011 ACC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin Thursday, April 21, and will continue through Saturday, April 23. The three-day event will be held at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Fans can follow the action at home Friday and Saturday via The ACC Network on theACC.com. Coverage is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Live results will be available throughout the event on the championship website, http://www.theacc.com/championships/11-otf-championship.html.

Competition begins Thursday at 10 a.m. with heptathlon and decathlon events. Field events, including discus and javelin, are scheduled to start at 12:30. The 10,000m run finals are set for 8 p.m.

Friday kicks off with the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon events at 10 a.m. The shot put, long jump and high jump begin at 1p.m., followed by preliminaries for the 1500-meter run, 100- and 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. Friday concludes with the 3000-meter steeplechase finals.

Saturday's events start at Noon with the pole vault, hammer throw and triple jump. The running event finals begin at 4 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay, followed by the 1500-meter run, 100- and 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 5000-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

Duke will host the championship for the ninth time overall and first since 2000. The Florida State men and Clemson women look to successfully defend their conference titles. It would be the sixth consecutive and eighth overall for the Seminoles, while the Tigers are seeking their fourth overall. Maryland's men's squad leads all league teams with 26 titles, while North Carolina's women have claimed 14.
