GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State’s Jeff Pelage has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week, while the Seminoles’ Georgia Peel earned Women’s Performer of the Week honors.
Pelage exceeded his lifetime best discus throw mark by more than 6 meters last Friday at the Seminole Invitational, rocketing his way up the ACC, NCAA East Preliminary and NCAA national rankings. Pelage turned in a brilliant series – four of his six throws were career-bests – highlighted by his throw of 56.19 meters (184-4). Though he finished second to former Seminole All-American and post-collegian Michael Putman, Pelage now ranks second in the ACC in the event and No. 14 on the NCAA East Preliminary list and No. 29 nationally. The former Boston University basketball standout and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native came into the meet with a lifetime best of 50.17m.
Georgia Peel defeated her sophomore teammate Colleen Quigley in the 1500-meter run at the Seminole Invitational Saturday at Mike Long Track. The freshman from Great Britain took control on the final lap and closed in 4:14.40. It is the second-fastest time in NCAA Division I this season and ranks No. 1 on the NCAA East Preliminary list. Peel and Quigley, who finished in 4:15.65, not only rank 1-2 in the NCAA East and the ACC, but also recorded the seventh and eighth fastest times in Florida State history.
