GREENSBORO, N.C.—NC State freshman Ryan Hill and Florida State junior Kim Williams were named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, for the period ending April 11, announced today. Hill broke a school record and clocked the fastest 1,500-meter run in the nation and Williams’ triple jump performance topped all women nationally.
In his only event at North Carolina’s Joe Hilton Fast Times Meet on Saturday, Hill turned in a 3:40.81 performance, the nation’s fastest time this season, to win the field of 39. His mark topped the previous school record, which has stood since 1972, by nearly two seconds. The Hickory, N.C., native’s 13:56.41 time in the 5,000-meter run, which he recorded two weeks ago at the adidas Raleigh Relays, tops the conference and ranks 13th nationally.
Williams, the 2010 ACC Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Year, won both the triple jump (44-4.25) and long jump (19-5.50) at the Seminole Invitational on Saturday. The Kingston, Jamaica, native’s triple jump mark leads the nation, while her long jump performance stands seventh in the ACC this season.
The 2010 ACC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from Thursday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17 and hosted by Clemson. The first two days of action from Rock Norman Track begin at 10 a.m., with the javelin throw, decathlon and heptathlon, discus throw, and 10,000-meter run on Thursday. The remainder of the decathlon and heptathlon, as well as the long jump and shot put, 3,000-meter steeplechase, and the preliminary round of running events are set for Friday.
Events on Saturday continue in the field at 12 p.m. with the high jump, hammer throw, triple jump, and pole vault. The finals of running events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., and the post-championship awards ceremony will follow all events at 7:10 p.m.
