GREENSBORO, N.C.— North Carolina juniors Charles Cox and LaToya James were selected Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week, respectively, announced today. Both Cox and James won events at the two-day Wake Forest Open (Mar. 19-20).
Cox paced the field of 106 in Winston-Salem by winning the 400-meter dash in 46.17. The Tinton Falls, N.J., native also finished third in the 200-meter dash among a field of 139 with a 21.31 clocking. James won both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles, beating fields of 56 and 45, respectively. The Burlington, N.C., native turned in times of 13.72 in the 100 and 58.07 in the 400, as North Carolina got its outdoor season off to a good start at the unscored meet.
The Tar Heels next compete on Friday-Saturday, March 26-27 with split-squad meets at the adidas Raleigh Open in Raleigh, N.C. and Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. All 12 of the ACC’s track & field programs will be in action over the weekend, while Boston College, Duke, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest will join the Tar Heels for competition in Raleigh.
