GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Wake Forest's Ben Lincoln has been named the first Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Track and Field Performer of the Week for the outdoor season, while Georgia Tech's Julienne McKee and Virginia's Tech's Martina Schultze have been named Women's Performers of the Week.
Lincoln posted the nation's second-top throw in the javelin and shattered a seven-year-old Kentner Stadium record with a school-record distance of 247-3 (75.36m) last Friday in the Wake Forest Open. The throw by the Hingham, Mass., senior surpassed his nearest meet competitor by nearly 43 feet.
Fresh off a first-team All-America performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the triple jump, Georgia Tech's McKee exceled in her other event - the long jump - as the Yellow Jackets opened the outdoor season at the Georgia Relays. The Marietta, Ga., junior posted a school-record distance of 20-9 (6.32m) to place first among 29 competitors. McKee, who broke her own school record, now holds three of the top five spots in Georgia Tech long jump history.
Competing in the pole vault at the Hurricane Open in Miami, Virginia Tech's Schultze won her first competition of the outdoor season by eight inches and tied the school record mark of 14-1¼ (4.30m) she set a season ago. The distance by the Uhingen, Germany, native is currently tied for first nationally.
