ACC Schools to Send 52 Student-Athletes to Indoor Track & Field Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Atlantic Coast Conference schools will combine to send 52 student-athletes—26 male and 26 female—to the 2010 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship, held this upcoming Friday-Saturday, March 12-13. The championship will take place at the Randal Tyson Track Center and be hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

A total of 26 men, including Florida State sophomore Maurice Mitchell who will compete in two events, will participate in the men’s championship. Clemson junior April Sinkler and freshman Brianna Rollins will each compete in three women’s events and lead 26 ACC women student-athletes at the NCAA championship. In addition to Sinkler and Rollins, Miami senior Deandra Doyley and junior Ti’erra Brown, as well as Seminole junior Kim Williams will compete in two events.

On the men’s side, Virginia Tech, which is ranked 10th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, leads all league teams in sending eight student-athletes to Fayetteville, and is followed by ninth-ranked and 2010 ACC champion Florida State with six participants, Clemson and North Carolina with three each, Georgia Tech and Virginia with two each, and Duke and Miami with one apiece.

The sixth-ranked and 2010 ACC champion Clemson women’s squad will see nine of its student-athletes compete at the championship. Clemson is trailed by Florida State with five participants and Boston College, which has four student-athletes competing in the distance medley relay. Rounding the field of participants representing the ACC will be Miami with three selections, Virginia Tech with two, and Maryland, North Carolina, and Wake Forest with one apiece.
